Looking after employees’ health and wellbeing has long been acknowledged as a vital element in ensuring optimum productivity within a business and something that can ultimately be the difference between survival and demise.
As an agency, we’ve always recognised the value of our most precious resource, and we’re kicking off the brand new decade with an even greater emphasis on ensuring our team is happy, healthy, and hungry for success.
Rhiannon Williams, Head of Agency, said: “We are staunch believers that a happy team is the absolute key to real success, and we’ve seen over the years the hugely positive effects that focusing on this has had – from enhanced employee engagement, lower sickness levels, and an exceptionally loyal, motivated, and committed team.
“We’ve never been afraid of pushing boundaries and this is an ethos that runs across all areas of the business – from encouraging our clients to push themselves out of their own comfort zones and educating the wider industry about the pitfalls of traditional PR as we know it, to the ways in which we look after our own team.
“Every member of our team is special and each individual has different aspirations, passions, and interests. Not everybody has a burning desire (or ability) to go to the gym three times a week, and so it’s important that we support every individual to be the very best version of him/herself – in a way that works for them.
Our investment at the end of 2019 in a 12-week health and wellbeing programme run by Shropshire-based lifestyle coach Laura Butler, focused on core elements including nutrition, fitness, and mindfulness, and has seen us all develop our own personal goals for the year ahead – an exercise which has been revelatory (for some of us!) and hugely valuable (for all).”
A significant part of our overarching focus on health and wellbeing is our ongoing commitment to flexible working and our philosophy that flexibility should always go far above a pure tick box.
“For us, flexible working is something that we absolutely embrace and, in fact, positively encourage in order to empower every single member of the team to be their happiest and healthiest self.”
We've introduced a 7am-6pm day – with everyone given the opportunity to choose their own working hours within these parameters to suit them. A recent extension of this has been the introduction of ‘The Fifth Day’ – an initiative which gives individuals the option to fit their working week into four days and enjoy an extra day off.
“Looking after the health and wellbeing of your team is absolutely essential, and not only that, but looking after them in ways that not only resonate but that deliver genuine value. Ultimately, if you empower your team to be the happiest, healthiest version of themselves, it really is win:win:win – for them, for their clients, and for the organisation as a whole.”
