You may not remember, but last Spring we showcased my (Rhi's) TV debut on BBC One game show Hardball with the promise of Fliss’s Fifteen to One appearance to come…
Well, we’re thrilled to announce that the wait is over! On Monday 17th June (a whole 17 months after Fliss travelled to the Channel 4 studios in Glasgow whilst eight months pregnant), her show aired.. and didn’t she do us proud 😊
After successfully answering some pretty tough questions covering a range of subjects including geography, advertising, and music (did we all know that the letters ‘pp’ on sheet music stand for ‘Pianissimo…?) Fliss was through to the final three and the dreaded buzzer round…
But it was here that sadly Fliss’s queen of the game show status was to end as she struggled to provide a correct answer to the question ‘Which Reggae band released a cover version of Elvis Presley’s I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You in 1993’. The irony of course being that it was actually Fliss’s wedding song! Hasten to add, she had been divorced for a few years at that point...
Not only did Fliss challenge herself and take herself out of her comfort zone (whilst also having one awesome adventure) but she found a friend for life in host Sandi Toksvig as they bonded over their love of language and considerable dislike for poor grammar.
Introducing Fliss as a psycholinguist and self-confessed ‘grammar ninja’, the pair chatted openly and honestly about their collective mission to eradicate the likes of those ever-spurious apostrophes that often make an appearance on MOT and HGV signs (you’ve all seen them!).
True kindred spirits, Sandi even went so far as to describe her and Fliss as the ‘Batman and Robin of poor grammar’, and announced that she’d finally found the double-act she’d been waiting for! Now, that would certainly be one to watch…
