Keeping Informed on Children and Young People’s Mental Health

We’re always on the lookout for ways to grow and develop, both within Zen and on a more personal level, and we love any opportunity to enhance our skill set with something that really resonates.

That’s why we’re delighted to announce this Mental Health Awareness Week that our fabulous MD, Rhi, has just received her shiny new formal qualification for her TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young People's Mental Health.

Mental health and wellbeing is so important to us all at #TeamZen, and Rhi’s commitment over the last nine months to achieving this fantastic qualification virtually through Isle of Wight College is further testament to this.

The course has seen Rhi undertake various units of study - each followed by its own assessment - including legislation and best practise, living with childhood mental health conditions, understanding causes and diagnosis, and minimising the risk of mental health concerns. Rhi explains her motivation for completing this particular qualification:

“I've always had an interest in mental health, but particularly now as I have children and they're getting older. The statistics at the moment are pretty shocking, with more and more children and young people accessing mental health support services than ever before. I wanted to learn more about the various conditions young people are currently experiencing, the causes of these, and the impact on young people of living with poor mental health – and this qualification was the perfect opportunity.”

We’d like to say a huge well done to Rhi for her hard work and perseverance in completing this course, whilst also juggling a full-time job and another full-time job at home. Thank goodness for our genuine flexible working policy to enable her to keep herself nurtured along the way!

The Ever-Changing English Language: Word Trends of 2016

Whether we like it or not, our language is changing. There’s approximately one new word created every 98 minutes – that’s about 14.7 words per day. Around 1,000 of these are actually added to the Oxford online dictionary each year, with words getting removed or labelled as ‘obsolete’ on a regular basis too.
